Before the start of the school year, our school community came together for our first All Community Workday of the year. New and returning parents and middle school students rolled up their sleeves and got to work, preparing our school for the arrival of our students. From weeding the garden to trimming trees and caring for the spaces our children use every day, their hard work and dedication were truly inspiring.

Workdays are an important part of what makes our school community special, and we ask every family to participate in at least two workdays each school year. We know that Saturdays can be busy and are often precious time dedicated to family. Yet, the time and energy our parents give to these days goes a long way—not only in caring for our school, but in strengthening our community.

There is something meaningful about children seeing their parents actively contributing to and caring for their school. They see that their families are invested in the place where they learn, grow, and build relationships.

Workdays also create a unique opportunity for parents and teachers to connect. As we work side by side—pulling weeds, trimming branches, cleaning, building, and caring for our shared spaces—new conversations and connections naturally begin. There is time to get to know one another without the rush of morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, or heading off to the next commitment of the day.

These moments of working together are an important part of building the strong, connected community we want for our children.
