Summer learning for teachers, too! ✨ At Sunrise School of Miami, professional development doesn’t stop when the school year ends. This summer, members of our faculty traveled to Toronto to attend the 2026 Summer Festival of Arts and Education at Rudolf Steiner College Canada, joining educators from around the world for a week of study, artistic practice, and professional growth. All of our lead teachers are trained through credentialed Waldorf teacher education programs, and many continue their studies year after year as part of their commitment to lifelong learning. Through conferences, workshops, artistic work, and ongoing study of child development, our teachers deepen their understanding of how children learn and grow. Experiences like these allow our faculty to return inspired, renewed, and equipped with fresh insights for the year ahead. What does hands-on learning look like at Sunrise School of Miami? ✨ It means bringing...

In 3rd grade, students begin exploring how human beings meet the fundamental needs of life through meaningful, hands-on experiences. As they gain a growing sense of independence, the curriculum invites them to discover how people around the world build, create, and work with the resources available to them. For their Shelter Project, each student researched a traditional dwelling from a different culture, wrote a report, and prepared a presentation before designing and building a model using natural materials such as clay, wood, and stone. More than learning about shelters, students develop confidence in their ability to investigate a topic, create something with purpose, and share their knowledge with others—a meaningful milestone in their journey toward greater independence and responsibility. #miamiprivateschool #wholechildeducation #inspiredbywaldorf #wholechild #headhearthands

As we look back on this past school year, we’re especially grateful for the inspiring visit from educator and author Jack Petrash. One message from his workshop continues to resonate with us especially during the slower rhythm of summer. “Play is the royal road to childhood happiness and adult brilliance.” — Joseph Chilton Pearce When children play, they are fully present. Their hands, minds, and hearts are engaged in the same activity. They are not thinking about what comes next or distracted by the many demands that often pull adults in different directions. Jack reminded us that this kind of complete attention is something extraordinary. In his words, the deep focus we witness in children’s play is the quality of genius. As summer unfolds, it’s a beautiful invitation to pause and ask ourselves: How much time is there for unhurried, imaginative, joyful play? Sometimes the most important learning isn’t scheduled at all it happens when children are free to wonder, create, and simply be. #jackpetrash

In 4th grade, the study of animals invites students to look beyond facts and classifications. By observing how animals live, move, and relate to their environments, children begin to appreciate the remarkable diversity of the natural world. To conclude this block, each student researched an animal of their choice and created a three-dimensional habitat diorama, carefully recreating the environment their animal calls home. They then presented their projects to classmates, families, and the school community, sharing what they had discovered through their research. Through projects like these, students strengthen observation, research, artistic expression, and public speaking skills while learning to see the deep connection between every living being and its habitat. #miamiprivateschool #wholechildeducation #inspiredbywaldorf #wholechild #headhearthands

Last spring, our Parent-Child Program was filled with joyful discoveries—watching wildlife, splashing in water, gathering flowers, singing songs, sharing stories, and experiencing the beauty of the seasons together. In these early years, children learn through movement, imitation, play, and meaningful experiences, while parents and caregivers enjoy the opportunity to slow down, connect, and build community alongside them. 🍂 Fall Parent-Child Program is now open for enrollment!
