What does childhood need? Imaginative play. Boredom. Movement. Connection. Creativity. Time outdoors. Attention. The freedom to explore, make, wonder, and simply be. These aren’t extras. They’re part of childhood. But what happens when technology begins to replace some of these essential experiences? On November 7, Sunrise School of Miami welcomes child and adolescent psychologist Dr. Richard Freed for Protecting Childhood in a Digital World: What Children Need to Grow, Learn, and Thrive. At this age, students are ready to look beyond their immediate world and explore a time of discovery, cultural exchange, creativity, and profound change. Our 7th and 8th graders are immersed in the Renaissance, studying the lives and contributions of figures such as Marco Polo and exploring how people, ideas, and knowledge traveled across cultures. Through stories, historical study, writing, and artistic work, students connect with the people and events of the past while developing a deeper understanding of how the world they live in came to be. Puddles became places to explore, rain became an invitation to play, and ordinary moments turned into opportunities for laughter and movement. This week brought plenty of rain—and our children knew exactly what to do with it!...

🌟 Happy Michaelmas! Our community of parents, teachers, faculty, and staff came together to create a beautiful Michaelmas celebration. Parents prepared the grounds, children pressed fresh apple and starfruit juice, and families baked sourdough bread to share at our picnic. Many hands and hearts came together to make the day possible. As the days grow shorter, Michaelmas invites us to reflect on strength, courage, and inner resolve. It reminds us that we all face our own “dragons”—challenges that call us to find courage within and to support one another along the way. Winter Parent-Child Registration Is Open! Registration for our Winter Parent-Child session is now open, and we know many families have been waiting for this next session. Designed for children ages 2–4 and their parents or caregivers, our Parent-Child program offers a gentle introduction to school life through nature walks, storytelling, circle time, creative play, and meaningful seasonal activities—all designed to nourish connection and shared discovery. 8 weekly sessions | 9–11 AM Mondays: January 4 – March 8 No class January 18 or February 15 Wednesdays: January 6 – March 3 No class February 17 Tuition: $350 for the 8-week session We are already seeing strong interest in this session, and space is limited. The image of Michael and the dragon reminds us that we all encounter our own “dragons”—moments that ask us to be brave, persevere, and find strength within. Throughout the Michaelmas season, our days are filled with courage games, songs, stories, and activities that bring these qualities to life. While these photos show our Kindergarten children, Michaelmas is experienced across all grades, in age-appropriate ways. And courage is not only about facing our own challenges.
