Founded in 2005 by three parents and a teacher, with nine pioneering children, Sunrise School of Miami began as a bold reimagining of education—one that honors the natural rhythm of childhood and nurtures curiosity, creativity, and joy in learning. Inspired by Waldorf principles, Sunrise cultivates the whole child—mind, heart, and spirit—through a curriculum that balances academic rigor with art, movement, and hands-on exploration. In an age defined by technology and automation, Sunrise offers a human-centered alternative that builds the skills the future needs most: creativity, empathy, and resilience. Our students learn to think originally, work collaboratively, and engage with the world thoughtfully and compassionately.

The school began humbly in a leased church space, and by 2008 Sunrise celebrated its first eighth-grade graduating class. Since then, many students have carried forward the values of those early days, and today Sunrise serves a vibrant mosaic of families from diverse backgrounds, reflecting the richness of Miami itself. Our board, faculty, and families share a belief that education should draw out the best in every child through artistic, creative, and caring guidance. Graduates leave ready to navigate life thoughtfully, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and approach the world with curiosity and awareness.

Now, with more than twenty years of growth, Sunrise continues to thrive as a cornerstone of human-centered education in South Florida and is entering an exciting new chapter: establishing its permanent home—a space where future generations will continue to learn, create, and flourish under the warmth of the Miami sun. More than a school, Sunrise is a movement to protect childhood, inspire purpose, and shape a more compassionate, creative world.
