Our community gathered this Martinmas beneath soft string lights, sharing warm soup and joyful company as dusk settled around us. We are filled with gratitude for all who came to share in the warmth of the evening, and for the many hands—seen and unseen—who helped with setup, cleanup, and the gentle tending that made everything flow with ease.
After soup, the children were treated to a beautiful shadow-puppet retelling of the story of St. Martin, his cloak, and his gesture of compassion. With their handmade lanterns, Grades 1-4 set out on the Lantern Walk, each lantern a tiny glow against the dark. Our eighth graders walked their own path of remembrance, marking their final Martinmas at the school with reverence and reflection.
We closed the evening together in the Rock Garden, where the middle school students sang “The Elk Herd Song,” sending a final shimmering note of light, warmth, and gratitude into the night.
In the spirit of St. Martin’s generosity, we also came together in an act of service through a school-wide food drive, offering support to Jamaica as the island continues to recover from the recent hurricane. Families are invited to continue bringing canned goods and other non-perishable items now through Winter Break, helping us extend the light of good deeds into the wider community.
